Social Media, with a grain of salt!

How do you take your social media? I take mine with a grain of salt. BUT, (and you'll notice that is a big but) sometimes it is too easy to fall down the rabbit hole of what is real and what isn't real! For example, and the most obvious one, is the filters! Jeezaloo! those filters. I see so many people using filters in all of their posts without even acknowledging it. I'm talking just in their everyday selfies. And I have to say, it is mainly females. And yes, before you come at me, it is to each to their own but I just find it so sad that this is the only way some people seem happy with themselves!

Above, is the perfect example! Look how fabulous I look in that second pic! I mean c'mon! I'm hot!!! (insert eye rolling emoji here!) And honestly, I've used this filter, especially when I want to post but have no makeup on, however, I always mention the filter in my post. Believe me, I'm under no disillusion that is/is not what I look like!!
Another example is all the conspiracy theories, especially on TikTok. You really have to remind yourself that the people creating these posts have a very biased agenda. It is really easy to believe these posts are 100% true because the people creating them are very convincing!
Then there are the celebrities. Since the pandemic and lockdowns, celebrities started sharing a lot more of their personal lives, and believe me, I'm a real sucker for this. I mean seriously, who doesn't want to believe that Reese Witherspoon or Jennifer Anniston could totally be your next best friend! Or Lenny Kravitz is so single that I could be his next girlfriend (just as an example, really!). But I saw the other side recently when Matthew Perry died, and I, like so many others went to all the other Friends cast members pages to see their comments, and they didn't comment. When I was disappointed I realised, how dare I?! How dare I believe that these people who would be clearly mourning their friend's life would feel like posting on social media about it. After that, I was actually disgusted that I saw clips of the Friends Cast attending the funeral. I suddenly put myself in their place and like I said, was completely disgusted!!
Then there was Chris Evans , the actor who was all over social media when he was voted Sexiest Man Alive in 2022. Earlier this year, he went public with his relationship and he got absolutely annihilated and the abuse his girlfriend received on social media was so bad that he deleted his account. I mean seriously! How utterly despicable!
I could go on and on about the bad stuff because it is really bad, but there is also good stuff too. Firstly, social media a great way to stay in contact with friends and family who are in other countries or even when you are too busy to catch up with when they are nearby. It is also a great way to document your photos, because lets face it, barely anyone is using actual photo albums these days!
Another good thing about social media is all the recommendations you get. you can find great recipes, make up tips, bands and places to eat and drink. Some examples of my go to Instagram pages are
@cheatmeats

who are amazing for all those meat recipes!
And then I tell my friends with kids to check out @cafeswithkids for all the kid friendly places in Perth.

And for fantastic makeup tips and places to go in Perth tips there is @bernadette_maree

And so many more!
Plus I use it for promoting my own business @theonlyonecompany which is the best way to promote businesses!

So, in conclusion, there are positives and negatives about social media, you just really have to keep your wits about you and keep that grain of salt handy!
Until next time...
